1" scale Burrell Special Scenic
These wonderful 1" inch scale Burrell Showman's engines were scratch built built by a Mr Legg of Newbury using materials collected from scrapyards. Mr Legg was a talented signwriter who loved the scenic railways and the powerful steam showman's engines that powered them. He built a fleet of engines as well as a replica switchback railway. He passed on his passion for the engines to his sons. One of them has completed a beautiful model of an electric scenic railway which packs away into wagons in exactly the same way as the full-size ride. I was lucky enough to meet Mr Legg senior who has now sadly passed away.
2" Scale Burrell Scenic models
Ron Dawe was the expert on 2" finescale models of Burrell Scenics. He built several engines in this scale and held the official works drawings for the RLS. One engine he built called EXCALIBUR was stolen in 2005 and has never been recovered. A very popular model in this scale is Ronald Clark's Thetford Town design representing a Burrell Special Scenic. Castings and drawings are still supplied by Reeves 2000. The engine is around 4 feet long and runs on steam. It can be coal or gas fired. On average it takes 5 to 10 years to build the model. They were very popular in the 1960's. There is enough power to haul a trailer with 2 or 3 adults but most examples are for display. There was no actual engine called Thetford Town.
4" scale LSM Burrell Special Scenic
Live Steam Models (LSM) sell drawings and castings for the Burrell Scenic in 4" scale (one third size). This is a large and powerful engine and can pull several adults on a trailer. To build an engine of this complexity will require many engineering skils and years of dedicated application. For this reason some will now be interested in the fully machined kits offered by STW below.

4" scale Steam Traction World Burrell Scenic
Steam Traction World is a company that manufactures kits which can be assembled using hand tools only. This allows a much faster build time. It also allows someone with little or no model engineering experience the chance to build their own model. This engine was built using a kit produced by Steam Traction World. The lining is very accurate and incorporates gold leaf as on a full-size engine. This engine was lined with real gold leaf just as in full-size practice. The owner's pet dog gives an idea of the size.

6" scale Burrell Special Scenic engine
6" scale engines are becoming increasingly popular as they can be steamed all day without a problem. Engines in this scale can pull a large load and are easier to transport to rallies than a full-size engine.
