2 inch scale Burrell Scenic Road Locomotive - Thetford Town plans
Many 2" scale Burrell Scenics are based on the Thetford Town drawings produced by Ronald H Clark in the 1950's. The Thetford Town design is not an accurate copy of any particular Special Scenic Burrell engine. Apparently only the motionwork is accurate to full-size. Most parts were simplified to make it an easier model to make and steam. The wheel rims in particular are visibly too deep but gave more strength for driving on rough ground at a steam rally. The offside motion covers are visibly too short. Alan Marshall published an excellent guide to building a Theford Town engine and copies can still be sourced via Amazon or specialist book stores. Reeves can supply most casting - their website is http://shop.ajreeves.com/thetford-town-376-c.asp
Burrell 3912 Dragon and Burrell 3887 The Prince of Wales in 2" scale
A Thetford Town in the livery of Burrell 3887, The Prince of Wales, when owned by Jennings of Devizes.
The Prince of Wales did not originally have a star on the motion covers but they add a bit of fairground colour!
Wheels lined out in black, red and gold, Fleur de Lys on belly tanks sides, unladen weight on tank and perch bracket. Just the canopy to add.
Brass olivers support the canopy in place. The Thetford Town plans show the brasses oversize and with the wrong profile of ends. These are based on the correct size/profile.
Paint and lining out by Adam Meredith using Craftmaster Paints.
